Join the Anishnawbe Business Professional Association to hear MPP Sol Mamakwa and NAN Grand Chief Derek Fox discuss their visions of leadership and charting a path to prosperity for First Nations in Northern Ontario in our keynote leadership discussion panel on October 6th.

Grand Chief Derek Fox shares a vision with forefathers of a united and strong Nishnawbe Aski Nation. A lawyer by training, the Grand Chief previously practiced civil litigation with a focus on Aboriginal, corporate, and commercial law and served two consecutive terms as a Deputy Grand Chief. In August 2021, he was elected to lead NAN’s 49 First Nations on a platform centred around building collaborative relationships to ensure respect for Treaty rights and First Nations’ rightful claim to lands and resources.

Sol Mamakwa is the MPP for the Kiiwetinoong riding and is the Official Provincial Opposition Critic for Indigenous and Treaty Relations. Elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 2018, he is the first MPP elected for this riding, the only riding in Ontario that has a majority Indigenous population. Sol is a member of Kingfisher Lake First Nation and is a resident of Sioux Lookout. His first language is Oji-Cree and he is a strong advocate for Indigenous language protection, equity in healthcare and education, and treaty rights.

Moderating this discussion will be ABPA Vice President and founder of Paquette & Associates Lawyers, Rachael Paquette, as well as ABPA Director Brian Davey, Executive Director of the NADF (Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund).
